IRAQI CORRUPTION INVESTIGATOR KILLED
The Iraqi official heading the investigation into alleged corruption in the UN oil-for-food programme has been murdered.
Ihsan Karim, head of the Board of Supreme Audit, died in hospital after a bomb attack on his car.
The bomb had been placed under one of the cars in his convoy on Thursday.
The oil-for-food programme was set up by the UN to stop former dictator Saddam Hussein rearming after the first Gulf War.
Because UN sanctions restricted Iraq's normal economic activity, the country was only allowed to sell oil under strict supervision.
In return it received food, medical supplies and other vital equipment.
But the UN believes Saddam and his allies found ways to bypass the rules and make money out of the programme.
